What does a typical day in your life look like?

My day starts at 06h30 with a cup of black rooibos. I read the newspaper and then start my work. I update my “To Do List”, check diaries, set up meetings, receive and make calls, receive visitors; I respond to e-mails, write letters and memorandum, do filing when there’s a need.  After work, I end up my day with a walk around the block.

What does it mean to you to have achieved your Professional designation as an Office Professional?

It means I have maintained a high standard of professionalism, with a strong sense of self-improvement. It also means that I am thorough with my work.

Taking full and complete control of the office – whatever problems I may encounter, I always remember that they are not about me – so I have learnt NOT to personalise problems.  I keep a positive attitude throughout.

What are the most important tools, programs and systems you use for your work?

My brains, Time, Laptop, Telephone and Smart Phone.  Systems MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, ESS, MS Access and SharePoint

What are your favourite apps and why?

My favourite app is WhatsApp.  It helps me to connect with people instantly at any time.

How do you deal with conflicts or problems in the office?

Set up a meeting at a venue where you will not be interrupted with the person you are in conflict with.  Listen carefully and patiently making sure you understand the cause of conflict.  Summarise points of agreements and disagreements.  Modify assessment until you both agree on the area of conflict.  Start with a plan to work on the conflict, focusing on the future.  Follow plan towards resolution.  While reaching milestones on the plan, complement each other and congratulate one another on each progress made.  Stick to the plan until conflict is resolved

Do you have some advice for aspiring Office Professionals?

My advice is to strive to achieve their goals, never compromise their integrity and morals. Be reliable and dedicated to their work.  Believe in team work and respect their positions
