Office Professionals are key contributors in any business, providing a wide range of attributes and skills including strong organisational, project management and customer service skills which enhance the operations of the organisation.

This prestigious award has been presented since 1982 on the first Wednesday in September and serves as the benchmark for outstanding performance and achievements by office professionals within both the private sector and government.

In 2016 there will be two awards:

  • National Office Professional of the Year

This is open to an individual who have been in an administrative role for a minimum of 5 consecutive years and who:

  • is an inspirational role model to other office professionals
  • delivers administrative excellence within their organisation
  • offers innovative business solutions and contributes to a high performance team
  • is committed to continuing professional and personal development
  • Upcoming Office Professional of the Year

This is open to individuals who are new to the administrative industry yet have demonstrated outstanding support services and continued enthusiasm towards their role and have a commitment to personal and professional development.  Nominees must have less than five years’ experience in an administrative role.

The Winner of the OPSA National Office Professional of the Year is presented with:

  • The OPSA National Office Professional of the Year award
  • A perpetual trophy
  • An OPSA professional designation and free professional membership for a year
  • Professional development and other prizes donated by our Sponsors

The Winner of the OPSA Upcoming Office Professional of the year will be presented with:

  • The OPSA Upcoming Office Professional of the Year award
  • A perpetual trophy
  • Professional development and other prizes donated by our Sponsors

Finalists and the winner are determined by an independent panel of judges who are selected from business and industry, and their collective decision is final.  The winner is selected for their outstanding achievement as an Office Professional and their ongoing commitment to their profession.

Whilst award winners are not required to be associated with OPSA, they are regarded as profession Ambassadors and are therefore encouraged to continue their personal and professional development through active involvement in OPSA activities.  To further enhance their position as an Ambassador, winners are offered a 12-month honorary role on a committee or project of their choice at OPSA.

THE AWARD CEREMONY

The award ceremony will be held at a venue in Johannesburg on the first Wednesday in September i.e. 7 September 2016.  Finalists must be present at the award ceremony in Johannesburg in order to qualify for the award.

WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?

This award is open to all office professionals regardless of title who strive to excel and further themselves in their role.

  • OPSA National Office Professional: nominees must be legal residents in South Africa and have been in an administrative role for a minimum of 5 consecutive years.
  • OPSA Upcoming National Office Professional: nominees must be legal residents in South Africa and have been in an administrative role for less than 5 years.

What is an office professional?

An individual who is responsible for administrative tasks and the coordination of information in support of an office related environment.  Individuals who are committed to life-long learning and who want to achieve administrative excellence.  The office professional of the modern workplace can hold many different titles e.g.

  • Senior administrators,
  • Administrative assistants,
  • Administration managers,
  • Executive assistants,
  • Clerical assistants,
  • Office managers,
  • Personal assistants,
  • Receptionists,
  • Secretaries
  • Data capturers.

NOMINATION PROCESS

  • Completed nominations and required documentation to be received by OPSA on Friday, 29 July 2016 (close off date).
  • Nine semi-finalists will be selected from the nominations received by the OPSA National Awards Committee and they will be announced.
  • The semi-finalists will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence (PoE) to show their competency in their current role by 26 August 2016.
  • Panel interview will take place during the week 29 August 2016 – 2 September 2016 by an independent panel of judges who are selected from business and industry, and their collective decision is final.
  • Winners to be announced on 7 September 2016 at an awards ceremony.

NOMINATE SOMEONE TODAY

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nominees must currently be employed in an administrative role
  • Nominees for the 2016 OPSA National Office Professional of the Year Award must have held their position for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years (not necessarily with the same organisation).
  • Nominees with less than five (5) year’s work experience will be considered for the 2016 OPSA Young Office Professional of the Year Award.
  • The winners of these awards are expected to act as ambassadors in promoting OPSA to the wider business community and to regularly attend OPSA functions during the year where possible and support OPSA initiatives.
  • The winners and finalists are expected to speak at functions on behalf of OPSA and the profession when invited to do so (coaching and mentoring will be provided)
  • Nominees must be legal residents in South Africa.

NON ELIGIBILITY

  • Past winners of the OPSA National Office Professional / PA of the Year Awards within the last 3 years
  • Directors of the current OPSA board or committees or current members on the board or committees of any other similar association.
  • People employed by associated sponsors and suppliers.

HOW TO NOMINATE

You can nominate yourself, or someone you know, by attaching a completed nomination form and submitting with the required documentation to awards@opsa.org.za.

Nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday, 29 July 2016.

Please note that nominees must be fully aware and agree to being nominated for these awards.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

To participate in the 2016 OPSA National Office Professional of the Year Award or OPSA Upcoming Office Professional of the Year Award, all questions in the nomination form must be completed and forwarded with the requested information and documentation. All nominations and any attachments provided will remain strictly confidential.

  • Shortlisted candidates must be available to attend an interview with a panel of judges. If you do not reside in Johannesburg, arrangements can be made to have the interview done online e.g. Skype.
  • The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Your application is accessible only by the organisers and independent judging panel and will be destroyed after the conclusion of the Awards.
  • Names and addresses will be retained to form a database for promotional purposes of the organisation and sponsors.
  • Every endeavour will be made to ensure the presentation of all prizes are as advertised. However, in the unlikely event that a sponsor due to unforeseen circumstances is unable to honour their commitment, the award winners acknowledge that OPSA will not be expected to supply or replace the prize, although every effort will be made to do so.
  • Prizes are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.
  • Finalists must be present at the awards ceremony in Johannesburg to qualify for the award.
  • Finalists traveling costs and accommodation to attend the awards ceremony will be at own account
